Design, fashion and food collide at Barcelona's Midmost Hotel

Figures from the worlds of architecture, design, fashion and food have collaborated on a design-led hotel in the heart of Barcelona that “transports classicism to the present day.”
The Midmost Hotel is located minutes from both the city’s famous Ramblas and the Sagrada Familia. Interior design firm Luzio Studio have refitted the building, which dates from 1919, using a fusion of styles, materials and concepts.
Classical design touches, such as marble furnishings and intricate bespoke metalwork, feature alongside surreal sculptures and paintings that reflect the city’s experimental artistic culture, while the use of a white, blue and gold colour scheme is intended to reflect the essence of the Mediterranean.
Catalan fashion and beauty designer Agnes Sunyer worked with the studio to create a unified design philosophy that extends to the uniforms worn by the staff – dyed a marine blue with golden buttons and accompanied by a green scarf in winter – and their hair and make-up.
Martina Wastl, a nutritional educator, holistic therapist, and yoga instructor, has worked alongside the design team in order to direct the hotel’s “gastronomical experience”, with a menu intended to evoke a feeling of wellbeing.
The hotel features 56 guest rooms. Public spaces include a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool and bar and a stylish underground breakfast room featuring velvet sofas, parquet floors, vintage 1970s lighting, antique doors and an industrial exposed ceiling.
