– Stavros Mavridis, director of health and wellness for Eminence Hospitality
Patmos Aktis, a Luxury Collection Resort and Spa, has opened in Greece, with a renovated and rebranded wellness offering called Ansana Wellness and Spa.
The property, which is located on the southeast side of Patmos Island in Grikos Bay, is owned by is owned by the Greek investment fund SMERemediumCap (SMERC). The resort has now completed a full renovation to reposition itself in the Luxury Collection brand category for Marriott International. This brand is for properties that offer a unique expression of their location.
There are now 33 new suites and maisonettes, taking the total units of accommodation to 56. Stylianidis Vaggelis Architects and Anastassiadis Architecture and Design have reimagined the site.
Wellness concept
Eminence Hospitality worked on the concept for Ansana Wellness and Spa. The word ‘Ansana’ means ‘breath’ in Greek and has inspired the philosophy for the spa as a way to help guests return to balance.
Meaningful connection through shared moments is seen as key to the spa concept. In alignment with the ancient Greek cultural hospitality value called Greek philoxenia, which directly translates as “friend to a stranger.” This means the destination will be a place where visitors will be welcomed, fed and protected – thanks to the mythological belief that gods walked the earth in disguise and therefore all travellers are to be respected.
The spa also encourages guests to take Blue Zone-inspired lifestyle advice for living well by offering natural movement, mindful fitness, Mediterranean cuisine and restorative rituals.
Stavros Mavridis, director of health and wellness for Eminence Hospitality, told Spa Business: “We're extremely honoured to be part of the transformation of Patmos Aktis, a member of Luxury Collection, to a concept that follows the Blue Zone way of life and connects the spirituality and culture of the island to the guest experience.”
Facilities
The spa has three treatment rooms: two singles and one double.
Facilities include an indoor pool, steamroom, sauna and relaxation lounges.
The spa building also houses the Ansana Gym and movement studio, stocked with a variety of Technogym equipment.
Treatments
The spa offers treatments by Kos Paris, a brand that uses Mediterranean botanicals, combined with French skincare expertise and uses wild herbs, antioxidant-rich fruits and natural oils.
QMS Medicosmetics, developed by German facial surgeon Dr Erich Schulte, provides clinically-driven treatments to restore skin integrity.
Seaskin Life offers treatments inspired by the surrounding Aegean Sea, using products infused with marine minerals and ocean-derived ingredients designed to detoxify and revitalise the body.
Programming
The spa will offer curated wellness festival days. Visiting practitioners and specialists will provide immersive experiences that range from meditation, chakra healing and sound therapy to breathwork and other mindfulness practices.
These gatherings are a way to position the property as a wellness destination with an evolving calendar of events that invite guests to discover, transform and connect with themselves and each other.
Other experiences
The property also has an outdoor pool and beachfront access.
A new Italian restaurant, Barolo, has been added to the culinary offering on-site. Barolo joins existing restaurants Cielo Daylight and the Plefsis Tavern.
Guests can also take part in a range of curated activities, such as a visit to the UNESCO Heritage Site St John’s Monastery, a trip to a sacred pilgrimage site known as the Cave of the Apocalypse or an island-hopping tour to discover the area’s hidden coves.
