Arquitectonica design luxury getaway in Boston with glass-bottomed rooftop dining floor
International studio Arquitectonica has partnered with “placemaking specialist” developers Samuels & Associates and Landsea Group to bring leisure to the skies of Boston.
The architects – who have just completed EAST, Miami, the first Swire Hotels property in the US – have unveiled their design for a mixed-use residential tower with private sky cabanas and a rooftop swimming pool and hot tub.
The building, called Pierce Boston, will feature 360 degree views of the city, and includes a rooftop dining room with a glass floor, a sky deck and a fitness centre with yoga studio. At the foot of the tower, there will be 20,000sq ft of street-level retail space.
The glass and metal structure will be wrapped in a curtain wall, with a patterned facade and texture designed to evoke traditional brownstone.
“Pierce Boston participates in both the distant skyline and and in the low-rise pedestrian fabric of the surrounding neighborhoods – two very competing interests,” said the architects in a statement.
“To achieve both, the building rises highest and most abruptly at the western corner of the site, but then draws back, behind and above its low-rise podium as it extends into the neighborhood to the east.”
