Hacienda Xcanatun’s new Angsana Spa brings the outdoors in with nature-centric design
Banyan Tree Group has refreshed its luxury hotel in Mérida, Mexico, with a new Angsana Spa inspired by Asian and Mexican therapies.
Located in four acres of lush green tropical gardens, the newly built wellness pavilion is part of Hacienda Xcanatun, Angsana Heritage Collection’s property-wide expansion project.
The spa stands above a tranquil pond and blends discreetly into the surrounding natural foliage thanks to a design blending the boundaries between the indoors and out.
Carefully chosen materials sourced from the region and the aesthetic charm of Yucatan complete the new nature-centric space.
Treatments
Banyan Tree has chosen to create a spa menu for the property inspired by both its location and Angsana’s Asian roots.
Offering a range of Asian and Mexican therapies, the rituals provided incorporate native plants, herbs and spices from Thailand and Mexico which are claimed to benefit the limbic nervous system.
Supplied by Angsana’s in-house product range, the spa menu offers guests a selection of massages, scrubs, facials and conditioning body treatments.
Its signature treatments – both available as 60- or 90-minute rituals – include:• Javanese: Adapted to ancient Balinese techniques, this deep-tissue massage is designed to release body tension and promote improvements in sleep patterns.
• Dream: Specially created for fatigued bodies, this relaxation-focused massage helps to relieve tense muscles with warm oil "clarity", a mixture of sesame oil and jojoba with a high concentration of vitamin E.
The spa is home to new treatment cabins designed to accommodate both individuals and couples within spacious, temperate environments. All are equipped with private bathrooms, showers, as well as steam facilities.
At the time of arrival, spa guests enjoy a welcome ritual to calm the senses and set the tone for relaxation. Visitors are also invited to co-create their treatments by completing a detailed form and consultation with the therapist.
With the launch of the new spa, Hacienda Xcanatun has also gained a space for yoga and meditation, located atop the still waters of the pond, plus a fitness centre, an Olympic-sized pool with Balinese beds, outdoor showers and a poolside snack bar.
Starting a new chapterLocated just 15 minutes from downtown Merida, Hacienda Xcanatun is located in an enclave where history and tradition meet.
Restored to its eighteenth-century grandeur as one of the most iconic henequen haciendas in the Yucatan, the resort features 18 suites that fuse contemporary details with local touches and 36 new suites that provide harmony between nature and modern spaces.
The destination is also home to a restaurant Casa de Piedra, serving contemporary and spontaneous regional cuisine.
