Upcoming Four Seasons Madrid with rooftop spa sets it sights on securing local market interest
– Christoph Schmidinger
After a seven-year reconceptualisation and restoration of a collection of seven historic buildings, the new Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is confirming reservations for arrivals beginning 15 September 2020.
The 200-room Four Seasons Hotel is located within Centro Canalejas, also home to 22 Four Seasons Private Residences and has been reimagined by architects Estudio Lamela, who led the restoration.
The project involved preserving more than 3,700 artefacts throughout. Inside, interiors are by an international team of designers including BAMO, BG Architecture, Martin Brudnizki, AvroKO and Luis Bustamante.
Wellness is a major focus at the hotel which will house a four-level urban spa retreat that will be capped by a sky-lit indoor pool and sun terrace looking out across Madrid’s rooftops.
The spa is spread across 1,450sq m and is claimed to be the largest in the city, offering eight treatment rooms, including one for couples, plus a salon and 24/7 fitness centre.
Facilities also include an indoor pool, relaxation lounge, sauna, steamroom and pool bar.
Guests and locals will be offered a spa menu featuring facials, massages, couple’s treatments and nail services. Treatments will be supplied by product houses, 111Skin and Miriam Quevedo, as well as two other companies which Four Seasons is waiting to confirm.
“It’s truly been a labour of passion and love as these beautiful buildings transform into a fantastic setting for a new chapter in their histories,” says Christoph Schmidinger, Four Seasons regional VP and the Hotel’s GM.
“The expectations are high and we’re here to elevate the city.”
According to Four Seasons, Schmidinger is on a mission to attract a local market base. He is keen to attract a local following and help ‘“locals see the property as an experience, not just another hotel,” with services and nuances that make them realise how well it has been thought through.
In the pedestrian-friendly city, most of the main points of interest are within a 20-minute walk from the destination, including the 125-hectare (300-acre) Retiro Park, with its Glass Palace, full of pathways amid trees, fountains and ponds.
Three of the world’s best museums – the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía – also form a Golden Triangle in the neighbourhood around the hotel.
At Four Seasons Madrid, Spanish celebrity Chef Dani Garcia will unveil Dani, a new dining concept from the three Michelin-starred chef, with a rooftop setting envisioned by acclaimed London and New York-based designer Martin Brudnizki.
The destination will also feature Isa, a gastrobar located on the first floor, designed to celebrate the tapas trend that began in Spain, adding modern Asian flavours paired with cutting-edge cocktails in a space created by global design studio AvroKO.
