Visitors set to fly at Abu Dhabi’s futuristic skydiving and climbing centre

The drive to make Abu Dhabi's Yas Island one of the world’s top leisure and entertainment destination continues with the under-construction CLYMB, a futuristic building that will hold a supersized flight chamber and climbing wall.

Miral, the developers and management company behind Yas Island, has said the 9.75m (32ft) flight chamber will be the widest in the world and the 43m (141ft) indoor climbing wall will be the tallest.

“CLYMB is an important and distinctive addition to the unique portfolio of destinations developed by Miral on Yas Island,” said Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral. “These destinations offer unique immersive and exciting experiences to everyone, as well as contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole.”

According to local reports, the attraction has been designed by architects and engineers Cansult Maunsell and is being built by local firm Zublin Construction.

Inside the flight chamber, visitors will be able to experience the feeling of freefalling through the sky in the same wind-tunnel environment used by skydivers in training. On their first visit, guests will undergo a training session of up to two hours, practicing with a small group in the flight chamber. Flight times per person can be between two and six minutes.

Four climbing walls will cater to guests of abilities, from beginner to expert, and CLYMB will also offer dining and retail outlets.

The US$100m (€93m, £82m) attraction is located beside Yas Mall and due to open in 2018.

Yas Island is home to Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld, with Warner Bros World, Clymb and SeaWorld also coming soon.
