World's most exciting future projects celebrated at MIPIM 2017 awards ceremony

The winners of the 2017 Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards have been announced, with this year’s prizes going to projects from eight countries across 11 categories.

The competition recognises projects that are under construction or currently in planning, through to competition entries and conceptual designs. The jury awards architects based on their response to the brief and their consideration of the full impact their building will make on the community.

Future projects celebrated this year include the Liepaja Thermal Bath and Resort in Latvia by Steven Christensen Architecture, which has won the Retail and Leisure category.

Commissioned by Liepaja City Council, the concept for this unbuilt design – formed of a multiplicity of domes, both upright and inverted – originates from “formal associations with the role of the dome in public bath typology through architectural history.”

Other winners include Wright and Wright Architects in the Old and New category for their design of the Lambeth Palace Library and Archive in the UK – a multi-million pound purpose-built facility that will hold the largest collection of religious books and manuscripts in Europe outside of the Vatican. The building will take the form of an occupied wall rising into a compact tower, and will include a multi-functional public viewing space with views of Westminster over the River Thames.

The other leisure winners in this year’s competition include:
