Cornwall’s St Moritz Hotel + Cowshed Spa undergoes multi-million-pound upgrade
– Hugh Ridgway
St Moritz Hotel + Cowshed Spa, based in Trebetherick, Cornwall, will unveil its upgraded leisure facilities following a £2 million (€2.3 million, US$2.5 million) refurb in June 2024.
The project will transform the hotel pool area into a modern new wellness space with a high-tech outdoor hydro pool, spacious new steamroom and sauna facilities, ice fountains and multiple sensory showers. Additional updates will include a revamp of the changing rooms and new indoor pool seating and lounge areas.
Design is being managed by Steve Coombe of 3idog who has been briefed to create a timelessly stylish space that’s both inviting and sophisticated.
The new space will complement the hotel’s existing Cowshed Spa facility. Launched in 1998, Cowshed is the signature spa brand created by the international private members club brand Soho House.
The six-treatment-room St Moritz wellness outpost is the only Cowshed Spa outside of a Soho House property and the only coastal Cowshed in the UK.
Soho House describes Cowshed as a concept inspired by the English countryside and centred on the therapeutic nature of botanical essential oils. Available to purchase at Soho House locations and global beauty retailers, its products are all made in England from a variety of organic ingredients and wildcrafted plant extracts.
Hugh Ridgway, St Moritz founder, said: "For 2024, we’re undertaking a multi-million-pound rebuild of our indoor swimming pool as an extension of our extremely popular coastal Cowshed Spa and in doing so, are stepping further into the luxury wellness landscape.”
Spa guests will be able to access a spa menu offering branded treatments supplied by Cowshed and SkinCeuticals.
The spa is also home to a hot and cold contrast cycle – called the Wild Spa, manicure and pedicure stations and a relaxation lounge.
Finer details
The Cornish Cowshed is characterised by Soho House’s classic interior styling. The St Moritz team says this design profile will flow through the new facilities in addition to colourful Miami-inspired interiors.
The spa will feature tiling throughout to provide a classic and stylish aesthetic, with Italian rock and pebble-inspired signature flooring and white marble mosaics in the pools.
For the walls, blocks of colour will complement lozenge-shaped blush pink tiles.
Meanwhile, vivid fabric colour patterns and stripes will cover the new four-postered day beds in relaxation areas to capture Miami’s vibrant essence, blending bold patterns and vivid hues such as turquoise, coral and sunny yellows to create an element of playfulness.
