Marriott adds 19th-century castle and former fire station to Autograph Collection Hotels brand
Marriott has continued the expansion of its independently-owned hotels portfolio with the addition of Schloss Lieser in Germany and La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa in France to its Autograph Collection Hotels brand.
Built in the late 1800s, Schloss Lieser is a Neo-Renaissance style castle with later Art Nouveau additions.
Following its restoration over recent years, the castle has been converted for use as a 50-room hotel.
The hotel is furnished to give guests a sense of its 19th-century heritage, with antique furniture and ornate chandeliers in its rooms and suites.
There are four suites, three apartments, four studios, 37 double rooms and two single rooms.
The Puricelli fine-dining restaurant, named after the hotel founders, is designed to be ornate but cosy and provides views over across the Moselle River.
Elsewhere, there is a bar with leather armchairs and live music, a 100sq m (1,100sq ft) ballroom and spaces for meetings, events and special occasions.
The hotel also offers a fitness centre and an indoor pool, as well as a spa with three Finnish saunas, an infrared sauna, a steam room and multiple treatment rooms.
La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa is located in Reims opposite the UNESCO World Heritage site Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral.
First built in the 1920s, the building was at one point used as a fire station and architects Thienot Ballan Zulaica sought to ensure that the architectural integrity of the building was retained.
Referencing the hotel's location in the Champagne region, Julie Fuillet Studio's interior design combines cork, wood and glass with a colour palette of gold, green and natural tones.
The hotel's open-kitchen brasserie has the capacity for up to 82 guests, as well as an 80-seat heated terrace.
A 450sq m (4,800sq ft) wellness area features five treatment cabins, an infinity pool, a sauna, a steam room, an ice fountain and a fitness room.
There's are also adaptable meeting spaces for up to 50 people and a winter garden in the grounds.
