Merlin putting forward plans for long-rumoured Legoland NY
Merlin Entertainments will put forward plans for its largest Legoland theme park ever, with a special presentation outlining the project in Goshen, New York, to take place on 14 June.
First rumoured in 2014, the US$800m (€718m, £555m) project would start development in Q2 2017, with a projected opening date of Q2 2019.
When the plans first came to light, New York State said the development would provide “an unprecedented boost to regional tourism”. At the time Merlin told Attractions Management that the company had “taken the opportunity to apply for state incentives to realise a project should a suitable location be found.”
Merlin will bring an application to the Town Board for rezoning of land in the area, with a public meeting also taking place for community members to have the opportunity to express any concerns.
If approved, Legoland NY would be a full scale theme park, waterpark and hotel aimed at children aged 12 and under. It is predicted that such an attraction would see a boost to regional tourism of around two million visitors annually. The park would be the third to open in the US, joining sites in California and Florida.
