Besiktas unveils 42,000-seat Vodafone Arena

The Vodafone Stadium took three years to build and cost approximately €110m to construct
Besiktas – one of the best supported football clubs in Turkey – has opened the doors to its new 42,000-capacity stadium.
The €110m (£88.2m, US$125.2m) Vodafone Arena was unveiled by the club alongside Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu and former president Abdullah Gul last night (10 April).
Turkish firm DBArchitects designed the Vodafone Arena alongside local architect Metin Demir.
After playing home matches around the country since its previous ground, the Inonu Stadium, was demolished in 2013, the 13-time Turkish champion will contest its first home match at the stadium against Bursaspor this evening (11 April).
During the inauguration, club president Fikret Orman revealed some of the stadium’s features, including high-speed Wifi, StadiumVision screen technology, solar energy panels and a rainwater recycling system.
On non-match days it will also be an entertainment and fashion centre and house the club’s museum and official store.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency president Erdogan said: “Besiktas actually deserved such a stadium a long time ago.”
