3,000sq m Resense spa in Ghana one of four upcoming Kempinski spas

by Jane Kitchen | 23 Mar 2016

Five new hotels will join Kempinski’s portfolio in 2016, in Europe, Asia the Middle East and Africa.

Partly opened since November 2015, the 269-room Kempinski Gold Coast City Accra in Ghana will include a 3,000sq m (32,292sq ft) Resense Spa, billed as the largest in West Africa. The spa will include ten treatment rooms, relaxation areas, a hammam and yoga studio.

The Resense spa will be finished in natural tones, from gold mosaics to stone and wood. The Resense ‘kur’ – a combination of steam, heat, water and soap massage – will combine ancient Roman bathing traditions with a holistic approach of natural therapies.

The hotel will also include a 25m outdoor swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis court, yoga studios and organic food bar; it expects a full opening in Q2 2016.

Kempinski will also open the Kempinski Hotel Fuzhou in China – the capital of Fujian province – in the second quarter of 2016. Located in the Jin An business district, the hotel will be part of a larger master development that includes a residential component, offices, entertainment and a shopping village.

The 327-bedroom Kempinski Hotel Fuzhou will include a 550sq m (5,920sq ft) Kempinski The Spa, managed by Resense, as well as a fitness club eight restaurants and bars and an outdoor garden.

The 153-bedroom Kempinski Summerland Hotel & Resort in Beirut is also scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2016. The resort is being built on the Lebanese coastline over an area of 65,000sq m (16 acres), and will include a 1,500sq m (16,146sq ft) Resense spa, several pools, water-skiing, sailing and diving, as well as a 5,000sq m (53,820sq ft) private sandy beach and a 47-berth marina.

Kempinski Al Othman Hotel Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia will have 218 bedrooms, a fitness studio and a Resense Spa. It is also due to open in Q2 2016.

Set in a former monastery on a private island in Venice, the San Clemente Palace Kempinski will open on 24 March, and features lush gardens, antique courtyards and a church built in the 12th century. The hotel has no spa at this point, but offers massage treatments for guests, as well as a heated outdoor pool, jogging trail, tennis court and a pitch & putt course. It hopes to open a spa in 2017, a spokesperson for Kempinski confirmed to Spa Opportunities.

Kempinski also has hotels planned for Muscat, Oman and Riga, Latvia, set to open in the first half of 2017.
