citizenM launches new Amsterdam hotel
Dutch hotel group citizenM has opened a new 215-bedroom hotel in the centre of Amsterdam's financial district in Holland, nearly a year after the company launched its first hotel at Schiphol Airport.
Located on Prinses Irenestraat between Amsterdam's World Trade Centre and the city centre, the new hotel has been designed to meet the citizenM's strategy of providing luxury accommodation at a low cost. Each bedroom, which has been designed by Dutch architects Concrete, were prefabricated at a purpose-built factory before being stacked on top of the pre-built ground floor area in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of the construction process.
The new Amsterdam property also forms part of citizenM's expansion plans, with a third property set to open in Glasgow later this year. The company is also planning to expand further into Britain, with development sites targeted in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. citizenM, which is headed by Rattan Chadha, a former partner of Oberoi International Hotels and Resorts, is also eyeing up major European cities before hoping to move into the American, Asian and Australian markets.
