US$145m expansion for Massachusetts arts museum

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute (SFCAI) in Williamstown, Massachusetts, US is to undergo a US$145m (€104m, £91m) expansion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando.
The project includes construction of a new 44,400sq ft visitor centre; renovation of the existing museum building; and a sweeping new landscape design by Gary Hilderbrand that will reorient the visitor experience.
The project, the final phase of the museum's expansion project, is expected to be completed in summer 2014. The first phase was completed in 2008 with the opening of Stone Hill Center.
As part of the expansion, a series of outreach programmes will be launched to allow museum activities during the time of construction. The series of programmes, called ClarkNOW, encompasses more than 60 projects over the next three years.
Director Michael Conforti SFCAI, said: "While our expansion program focuses on enhancing our built environment in Williamstown, ClarkNOW allows us to bring our collections and intellectual activities to US and international audiences in new and exciting ways.
