De Niro, Rockwell and Matsuhisa celebrate opening of Nobu Hotel in iconic Miami location
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Hollywood legend Robert De Niro and interior designer David Rockwell were on hand at a cocktail event in New York last night (7 November) to celebrate the soft opening of their latest Nobu hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
Rockwell has overseen a multi-million dollar renovation and restoration of the 1950’s Eden Roc Miami Beach hotel building; a national landmark designed by architect Morris Lapidus.
The Nobu Miami Beach looks out onto the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay and has been designed to deliver a “perfect balance of luxury, fun, craft and theatre that delivers the ultimate barefoot luxury experience in Miami.”
Leisure amenities include a Nobu Restaurant and Bar, a Malibu Farm organic restaurant, a gymnasium, a private pool, 70,000sq ft (6,500sq m) of public spaces and a spa.
According to Nobu Hospitality, the company founded by Matsuhisa, De Niro and film producer Meir Teper, “The design palette crafted by Rockwell draws upon raw, natural forms and layers of materials such as walnut, bronze, washi paper, linen and leather that create a sumptuous yet contemporary environment.”
The hotel also houses artworks curated by collector Peter Brant, including pieces from artists Richard Prince, Julian Schnabel, Rob Pruitt and Nate Lowman.
The hotel will officially launch in January 2017, joining a portfolio that includes Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace, Las Vegas and Nobu Hotel City of Dreams in Manila.
