QC New York to unveil 15,000sq ft multimillion-dollar expansion in July
QC New York, a luxury Italian day spa on Governors Island, will expand its offering this July by adding an extra 15,000sq ft of space. This new area will feature sensory saunas, waterfalls, a salt room, an ice room, a lavender room, a 142-seat bistro and a waterbed relaxation room.
Known for its picturesque pools offering views of Manhattan's skyline, QC New York already boasts an array of amenities including steamrooms, saunas, Vichy showers, infrared beds and more than a dozen relaxation chambers, alongside various F&B outlets.
Dedicated to the Italian art of dolce far niente – the sweetness of doing nothing, QC New York opened in March 2022 following a US$50 million (€42.3 million, £36.1 million) investment and seven years of planning, building and restoration.
The spa is part of the Milan-based thermal day spa group QC Spa of Wonders (formerly QC Terme) and marks the brand's inaugural US location. The team recently revealed it has plans for additional stateside ventures in the pipeline – the number and location of which are yet to be confirmed.
QC Spa of Wonders launched in 1982 and is helmed by Italian brothers Saverio and Andrea Quadrio Curzio. Together, the duo have built a portfolio of 12 wellness businesses in France, Italy and the US, based on European bathing traditions.
The journey towards establishing QC New York began in the mid-2010s when the Quadrio Curzios acquired three historic Georgian Revival buildings on Governors Island, formerly used as army barracks.
The first building – Building 112 – was renovated and completed in 2022 and is the beating heart of QC New York, showcasing more than 20 wellness experiences within themed chambers designed to seamlessly blend historic charm with Italian opulence.
Currently, renovations are underway on Building 111, which will house the forthcoming facilities.
Anticipated to be unveiled in Q2 2025, a third building will expand QC New York's footprint to a substantial 100,000 sq ft.
“Our philosophy of inviting guests to slow down and get lost has made our locations a massive success,” said Andrea.
“The expansion of QC New York is a key piece of the puzzle in our vision of becoming part of the city’s DNA and that means appealing to born-and-bred New Yorkers, those diehards who call the city home.
“We aren’t interested in being a flash in the pan, so that means focusing on what the city needs: a luxuriously manicured backyard worth visiting time and time again.”
