New secluded Maldives private island resort to include over-water, thatched-roof spa pavilions

by Jane Kitchen | 30 Jun 2016

The boutique five-star Milaidhoo Island Maldives is set to open this November on a small 300m by 180m island set in the heart of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll region of the Maldives.

Designed by local architect Mohamed Shafeeq, the resort will have a “barefoot informality” and include 30 over-water villas along with 20 beach villas, all with large private freshwater swimming pools.

The resort’s spa will include four over-water, thatched-roof treatment pavilions, each with their own heat and water facilities. An open-air yoga and meditation pavilion will offer daily complimentary classes. The spa will focus on natural healing traditions in the Maldives, coupled with an international spa brand which has yet to be decided.

Shafeeq has designed the resort’s 50 villas with materials and fittings custom-made for Milaidhoo with contemporary Maldives style. The villas all feature spacious outdoor living, with all villas opening 180-degrees to allow the natural island beauty to become part of the room.

Milaidhoo will include three restaurants and two bars, and will also offer “Milaidhoo Moments,” a collection of “meaningful and memorable experiences,” such as a visit to Hanifaru Bay to see manta rays.
