Colin Waggett says Third Space will open two new clubs in 2023
– Colin Waggett, CEO of Third Space
Third Space has announced it will be opening new clubs in Wimbledon and Battersea, London, in 2023.
With a new Moorgate club also set to open this November, the luxury health and fitness chain is aiming to operate an estate of eleven clubs by the end of next year.
“We can’t wait to continue expanding our current club network in Battersea and Wimbledon, reaching new areas in London,” said Colin Waggett, CEO of Third Space. “In doing so, we achieve our simply stated dual aims of getting better and bigger. The inspiringly designed clubs will provide the critical essentials of world-class training facilities, supported by best-in-class experts in a luxurious environment – all features that Third Space members have come to expect.”
The new clubs will provide high-end facilities and offer classes that allow members to take a holistic approach to their health and fitness. The 42,000 sq ft Wimbledon club is located at the Centre Court Shopping Centre, which is undergoing a transformation under new owner Romulus Construction.
The club will include studios for hot yoga, cycling, HIIT and reformer Pilates, as well as a double-height, multi-functional training space known as the Yard. A 25m pool and wet spa area – offering a hydro pool, plunge pool, heated loungers and a sauna and steamroom – are also part of the new design.
The 28,000 sq ft Battersea club is expected to open in autumn 2023 on new pedestrian high street Electric Boulevard, which will run from the south of the grade II listed power station to the Northern Line underground station. Retail fitness brands such as Sweaty Betty and Lululemon will also have a presence. Facilities will include HIIT, yoga, pilates and cycle, as well as an Elieko weightlifting space, 20m pool, hydro pool, sauna and steamroom.
As Third Space’s members re-establish their in-club fitness routines, the high-end chain estimates that 2022 revenue will be above 2019 levels, at £50m.
“Each new club is an opportunity to push the boundaries of what the very best in class clubs offer,” said Waggett. “2023 is going to be a very exciting year for Third Space with the upcoming club launches, and we have a number of other sites set to launch shortly after, inspiring all Londoners to be their personal best.”
Third Space worked with commercial real estate consultants P-Three, to identify sites in residential areas that will enable members to exercise at a club near work or home – part of the company’s pandemic-influenced growth strategy.
“With hybrid working being implemented long-term, in most cases, we have undertaken a strategic search and sought out the very best locations in strong suburban London villages, such as Wimbledon, to maximise this shift in consumer behaviour,” said Thomas Rose, co-founder of P-Three.
“In addition, Battersea Power Station is one of Europe’s best mixed-use schemes and the luxury club will support the new office and large residential communities surrounding the development.”
