Banyan Tree Group kicks off European growth plans with new hillside spa resort in Greece
Sustainable luxury hotel group Banyan Tree Group is continuing its global expansion with the opening of its first flagship property in Europe, Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa.
Set on a hilltop estate in Corfu’s Akra Punta bay, near Benitses Village, the new 196-room luxury resort is designed as a Mediterannean sanctuary surrounded by views of the ocean and the lush green, mountainous landscapes.
It will be operated and managed under the Banyan Tree Group’s luxury Angsana brand.
“After a challenging year for the travel industry, we’re grateful and excited for the grand opening of the first resort by Banyan Tree in Europe,” said Sergio Serra, AVP and regional director of sales and marketing for The Americas, Europe, Middle East & Africa at Banyan Tree Group.
“Corfu is an ideal destination for us to open our newest sanctuary, given its onus on environmentalism, wellness and an incredibly vibrant local culture.”
The resort's Angsana Spa encompasses 11 soothing treatment rooms and spa gardens overlooking the bay. Its philosophy is dedicated to prioritising both mental and physical wellbeing for guests, as well as blending Eastern and Western healing techniques.
The spa fuses sustainably harvested, local and natural ingredients unique to the Greek islands with its signature Asian origins to power a spa menu of Asian and Mediterranean body and face treatments.
Spa guests can visit both indoor and outdoor pools, an outdoor yoga pavilion, gym and a juice bar.
Additional resort facilities include 10 food and beverage venues, a kids club and a schedule of local tourism opportunities and excursions.
“At Angsana Corfu, we hope to bring the island of Corfu to life with curated experiences for every type of traveller,” said Michael Metaxas, GM of Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa.
“Whether it be a couple interested in going olive oil tasting, a family with young kids yearning to ride Skyrian pony rides, or groups wanting to go paddleboarding at Korission Lake, it’s our goal to connect visitors with the vivacious culture that is so unique to this Greek destination.”
Looking ahead, Banyan Tree Group's global footprint is set to grow with 35 new hotels and resorts under design and construction in the pipeline. Its next European location is scheduled to open in Salzburg, Austria, in 2021.
