Aquatopia Waterpark opens as part of brand new US$163m Pennsylvania ski resort
The largest indoor waterpark on the US’s east coast has opened in Pennsylvania as part of a US$163m (€145.3m, £107.3m) ski resort and spa development.
Supplied by WhiteWater West, the 130,000sq ft (12,140sq m) Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark on Camelback Mountain will operate all-year-round and features seven pools, 13 water slides, a surfing simulator, interactive water play centres, private cabanas and a swim up-bar.
The waterpark is home to some brand new concepts including: Storm Chaser, the longest uphill water coaster in any US indoor waterpark; Venus SlydeTrap, a multi-slide attraction combining three waterslides comprised of rafts, a serpentine flume, a 16-ft sphere and a zero-G open wall ride; The Lost River, a lazy river using immersive storytelling to create a dark adventure river experience; and Kartrite’s Quest, a play structure touted as ‘next generation,’ offering fully-themed and immersive multi-level exploration.
In addition, the waterpark has also incorporated WhiteWater’s popular Great Ka-Na-Gawa Wavepool, Bombora FlowRider surfing simulator, Mystic Springs indoor/outdoor family spa pool and several waterslides to appeal to all ages.
The 453-bedroom Camelback Lodge – owned and operated by the Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark ownership group – offers free waterpark access to guests. The 553,000sq ft (51,375sq m) ski in/ski out resort also features a fitness centre, 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) of meeting space, several restaurants and a five-room adult-only spa offering a full menu of treatments.
Other entertainment options at the resort include the 45,000sq ft (4,180sq m) Arcadia Family Adventure Center offering two levels of themed activities complete with arcade, indoor ropes course, nine-hole mini-golf, laser tag arena, bowling and a laser maze. The centre also includes a children's spa, which offers manicures, pedicures and facial treatments.
