AS Roma appoints facility manager for yet-to-be-built stadium
Italian football club AS Roma has partnered with a US-based facilities management company – despite the fact that construction won’t begin on its new stadium until next year.
AEG Facilities has signed a “long-term agreement” with the three-time Serie A champion to manage its event programming, such as vendor venue services and sustainability consulting.
As part of the partnership, AEG will “dedicate a considerable amount of resources to the local community” and “serve as a strong supporter of local job creation and economic growth for the city of Rome”.
AS Roma’s €2bn (£1.7bn, US$2.2bn) project will see the construction of the 52,000-capacity stadium – which is due to open in time for the start of the 2019/20 season – a new training facility and several entertainment zones.
“This stadium is a critical piece in AS Roma’s storied history and will transform both the sports landscape and the fan experience in Italy,” said AEG president Bob Newman. “It will be a true multi-use stadium and will not only host the world’s best football matches, but also concerts, festivals and other events.”
