Global management consultancy McKinsey grows its design expertise with acquisition of Lunar
US design firm Lunar is aiming to launch its design expertise into new spheres following its acquisition by global management consultancy McKinsey & Company.
The California-based firm, which offers full-service product development and has created designs for Apple, Cisco Systems, Nike, Tera, and BodyMedia to name a few, says the move to join giant consultancy McKinsey will ‘turbocharge’ its mission.
Lunar president John Edson says its clients will benefit from the ‘full-spectrum offering’, that combines McKinsey’s, “depth and impact in management consulting, business strategy and operations horsepower with Lunar’s unmatched capability in design, engineering, development and design strategy.”
He added that “given McKinsey’s focus on delivering business impact through world-class problem solving—this partnership will only turbocharge our mission.”
Lunar designers, engineers and creatives will continue to work in its existing studios in California, Chicago, Munich and Hong Kong, and will start to work with McKinsey's clients as well.
Edson added: “This news is only the latest evidence that design is an essential ingredient, approach, and result for businesses that regularly deliver outstanding products and services—not to mention lasting customer relationships.
“And perhaps most significantly, design represents a powerful approach for transforming businesses into more responsive and agile organisations in an increasingly turbulent business environment.”
