Firms join forces for US$140m Omaha ballpark
Three architecture firms are to work together to design the new US$140m (£72.5m, 92m euro) Omaha Baseball Stadium in Nebraska, US.
Selected by Omaha mayor Mike Fahey in June, the three firms – Omaha-based HDR as architects and engineers, HOK Sport as design architect and DLR Group as associate architect – will collaborate on the stadium, which will become the home of the College World Series.
HDR project principal, Bruce Carpenter, said: "This is a tremendous project for the community to continue its legacy as the home of the College World Series. By creating this vibrant new environment, the experience for both fans and athletes will be enhanced for many generations to come."
HDR and HOK have been working on the project since November last year on a preliminary design for the 24,000-seat stadium, which is likely to feature 28 luxury suites, a 360 degree walk-around concourse, five team clubhouses, practice facilities and administrative offices.
The Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority will own the stadium and will oversee the design and construction of the ballpark.
Work is expected to begin this autumn and is scheduled to open in April 2010.
