Bath retains World Heritage Site status

Inspectors from UNESCO's World Heritage Committee have revealed that they have no concerns over Bath's status as World Heritage Site, despite plans for the Western Riverside development.
A report published by the committee revealed that proposals for the first phase of the Western Riverside scheme, which comprises 44 acres (17.8) hectares of land to the west of the city centre, will not threaten the future of the World Heritage Site. The committee, which visited the city in November last year, also commended the conservation of Bath's historic buildings and the management of the World Heritage Site by Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES), English Heritage and Bath Preservation Trust.
BANES leader Francine Haeberling said: "he Council takes its guardianship of the World Heritage Site seriously and regards it as an inspiration to the city's future. None of the points made by the report are matters affecting Bath's inscription as a World Heritage Site. "However, there are already plans in place to help respond positively to the suggestions made, like the development of the Public Realm and Movement Strategy and World Heritage education programme."
