Armani will design the interiors for uber-luxe World One Tower in Mumbai. Trump Tower will open nearby

The Mumbai skyline is undergoing major change with the development of two uber-luxe residential towers with extensive leisure offerings vying for the attention of wealthy Indians.

The World One Tower was designed by architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and, at 117 storeys, will be the world’s tallest residential skyscraper.

The £205m (US$314m, €280m) tower is located in the Worli district of South Mumbai – which will also be the home of a new Trump Tower. Both buildings are being developed by Lodha Group.

World One Tower’s 300 apartments and penthouses will have interiors designed by Armani Casa, a brand of international designer Giorgio Armani.

But with completion due for 2016, sales bookings for its residences, which start at £1.4m, are already closed following a ‘phenomenal response’, according to Lodha.

Other partners on the project include Lera structural engineers; Ken Smith landscape designer; the Six Senses Group for hospitality services; and Quintessentially concierge service.

World One Tower’s 1.2 million sq ft (111,484sq m) luxury accommodation will be home to a large indoor leisure complex with swimming pools, gymnasium and spa, and a cricket and sports club with cricket pitches, pavilion and clubhouse, along with 18 super-fast lifts.

A short walk from World One, The Trump Tower Mumbai, launched last year by American businessman Donald J Trump, will be set in The Park at Worli and boasts 75 storeys covered in a glittering gold façade.

Its location is close to the Golden Mile, which features luxury hotels, retail malls, plus residential and commercial developments.

The Trump Tower will offer residents a 24-hour Resident Manager and white-glove services, access to global Trump luxury properties and membership to a private jet service exclusively for Trump residents.

The Tower, with its crystal glass inspired architecture, will feature 3 and 4 bedroom residences with interiors designed by HBA Singapore hospitality design firm.

It also includes German Poggenpohl kitchens, five-fixture master bathrooms, indoor Jacuzzis, built-in TVs and seven-level security.

Trump, who has other luxury developments in Vancouver, Istanbul, Panama and Manila, said the tower will, “bring the Trump lifestyles to the citizens of this truly global metropolis.”

Abhishek Lodha managing director of Lodha Group, said: “Mumbai is today a global megapolis and the centre for capital, talent and industry. Our collaboration on Trump Tower Mumbai not only raises the bar in every sense for luxury and services, but sets a new benchmark for luxury living in India – creating a tower that redefines the Mumbai skyline.”

According to World Population Review, 20 million people live and work in Mumbai, India’s most populous city. The population has almost doubled in the last 20 years with migrants from other regions moving in for work.
