Aman to launch ski spa in French Alps

Global luxury hotel operator Aman has added a new two-storey, 767sq m (8,256sq ft) spa at Aman Le Mélézin in Courchevel, France, which is due to open in December for the Alpine skiing season.

The hotel is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and has undergone two years’ of redevelopment, a process which began in 2016 with the refurbishment of all the rooms and suites. Construction work involved the entire building being temporarily placed on stilts, an architectural and engineering feat never before attempted in Courchevel.

The new spa, created by Aman's in-house design team and interior designer Christophe Tollemer, will feature five large treatment rooms, including two double suites and a Thai massage suite. The second floor will have a Capri-stone hammam and wellness area, offering guests a Turkish heat experiences, as well as hot stone massages and Himalayan salt scrub treatments. There will also be a fitness studio and a 14m (46ft) lap pool flanked by whirlpool baths will provide a relaxed bathing environment with mountain views.

As part of the refurbishment, the hotel will also launch Nama, a culinary concept celebrating the Japanese tradition of Washoku, a UNESCO recognised traditional dining experience that translates to 'harmony in food.'

First opening in 1992, the hotel is located in the Les Trois Vallées at 1,850 metres (6,070 feet) and is one of 31 Aman properties.
