O'Donnell O'Neill combine high-end design, tech and studios for boutique Dublin gym
– Ann-Marie O’Neill
Interior architecture and design firm O’Donnell O’Neill have created a boutique gym and health club at The Mayson hotel in Dublin with high-end design and facilities to match those of the hotel.
The Mayson itself was only opened at the end of 2019 by Irish leisure and hospitality company Press Up Entertainment Group.
The 94-key hotel is located in a renovated brick building in Dublin's docklands and its design mixes exposed industrial elements with bold but refined interiors.
Power Gym opened at the beginning of February and combines a similar level of design with a comprehensive health and fitness offering, technology for tracking workouts and class-specific studios.
"Power Gym is a vibrant space with a mix of raw concrete finishes offset with luxurious leather-clad walls and rosewood timber panelling," Ann-Marie O’Neill, co-founder of O’Donnell O’Neill, told CLAD. "It's a boutique gym which has a strong design aesthetic creating a luxurious space."
In addition to the wooden wall panelling, the open gym area has wooden flooring and feature lighting. For those working out, there is Myzone heart rate monitoring tech, Boditrax body composition and cellular monitoring tech and a "nightclub-quality" sound system.
There are three class-specific studios the designs of which are tailored accordingly.
The Power 360 studio features silent disco technology that allows members to set the volume of the music and the instructor's voice to their preference. It caters for a rounded training class with punchbags, kettlebells, assault bikes and TRX equipment for resistance and suspension training.
The dimly-lit Power Pedal studio is kitted out with bikes made by Stages Studio and big screens that show live data during classes, including calories burned and power outputs.
And the Power Climb studio caters for high-intensity interval training that uses Versaclimbers, FITBENCH equipment and bodyweight exercises. It features lights that sync with music and a Myzone screen that displays data like heart rate and calories burned for individuals in classes.
For more leisurely activities, there is an outdoor courtyard area with a relaxation pool, a sauna and a steam room. Among its design touches are a bespoke mural made up of hand-painted tiles created by artist Ruth Cassidy and a living wall.
The centre's changing rooms feature marble finishes, brass lockers with USB and plug charging connections and rain showers.
