Dukes Collection set to open 'first quinissentially British hotel' on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah
Luxury hospitality group Dukes Collection has appointed design firm AHK to create a “quintessentially British” hotel on the man-made Palm Jumeirah archipelago in Dubai.
The five star Dukes Dubai will open in December 2016 within a new tower complex. Inspired by its famous London counterpart, Dukes London, the hotel will contain 279 guestrooms and 227 hotel apartments spread over 15 floors.
An outdoor infinity pool will overlook the ocean and, while an indoor pool and cocktail bar will also feature on the 15th floor. A replica of the London hotel’s famous Dukes Bar and afternoon tea lounge will also be included. Two eateries, The Great British Restaurant (GBR) and Khyber, will open in the hotel.
Renderings released suggest AHK’s design will include classical design features popular in traditional British hotels, including chandeliers, marble floors and roof-supporting columns. British-themed furnishings, such as Union Jack pillows, will also be used and British suppliers will be prioritised for materials.
Dukes Collection MD Debrah Dhugga said: “This will be a true British gem in Dubai, offering both corporate travellers and holidaymakers an oasis of luxury and old-English charm, and espousing everything that makes us proud to be British.”
