Les Mills launches new flagship health club in Dunedin

Global workout specialist, Les Mills, which owns and operates health clubs in its home country of New Zealand – has relocated its Dunedin club to Meridian Mall and reimagined the offering to become a showcase of its Live Forward concept: being mindful of the present, while making choices which benefit your future self.

Following a NZ$9m (£4.9m, €5.1m, US$5.5m) investment, the purpose-built showcase club offered every resident of Dunedin a free one month membership if they signed up during opening week.

Facilities include zones for cardio, free weights, Olympic lifting (including a multi-bay squat rig and lifting platforms), functional training and stretching, as well as a group fitness studio, cycle studio and Les Mills Virtual classes. There is also a women-only workout area.

The changing rooms offer contrast therapy zones with cold plunge showers and saunas for recovery.

In addition to a full suite a Les Mills classes, the timetable also includes new whole-body functional training workout Les Mills Ceremony and The Trip, the fully immersive bike workout experience, which takes place in a dedicated studio featuring a cinema-quality AV system and immersive film library.

Brett Sutton, CEO of Les Mills New Zealand says: “Les Mills Dunedin signifies a shift towards a cutting-edge fitness facility which prioritises wellbeing, accessibility and community engagement.

“We’re thrilled to bring some of the most innovative workouts and experiences to the Aotearoa region with the reimagined club and we’ve been working hard to ensure the new offering is a true reflection of our Live Forward philosophy.”

A range of membership packages is on offer, from flexi – a one month minimum term costing NZ$35.50 (US$21.72, £17.26, €20.18) per week – to 12- and 24-month terms.

A 24-month membership costs $27.80 (US$17.01, £13.52, €15.80) per week and can be paused for five weeks without charge, while friends can be brought free of charge.

Members also get Les Mills At Home as part of their membership which gives access to more than 150 science-backed workouts, as well as a NZ$150 Adidas voucher as part of the company’s partnership with the global sports brand, which was announced earlier this year.

Globally renowned for its motivational group exercise programmes, including Bodycombat, Body Attack, Body Balance and Les Mills Grit, the company has been a successful operator in New Zealand for over 55 years, and has 12 clubs across the north and south islands.
