JD Gyms to increase portfolio to 18 by end of year

by Deven Pamben | 06 Jul 2017

Low-cost fitness brand JD Gyms expects its portfolio of gyms to increase to around 18 by the end of the year.

The business, which has 10 gyms, will be opening facilities in Bradford, Salford and Wolverhampton. It will also be opening at other locations but cannot release the names yet.

Bradford, Salford and Wolverhampton will each cost £2m (US$2.6m, €2.3m) and be around 26,000sq ft (2,415sq m), offering more than 200 pieces of equipment, as well as free weights and strength areas.

They will also each have prowler and sprint tracks, a rig, and more than 300 classes will be available to members each month.

Saunas will also be fitted in the changing rooms.

Speaking about the Wolverhampton gym, Alun Peacock, JD Gyms managing director, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing a low cost gym with a difference to Wolverhampton. Discount memberships will be available prior to opening later this year.”

JD Gyms, which is part of JD Sports Fashion, has sites in Batley, Birmingham, Coventry, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Preston, Rochdale, Washington and Wigan.
