Global Wellness Summit to focus on next generation DNA testing

by Deven Pamben | 21 Jun 2017

The impact that next generation DNA testing will have on wellness industries will be explored at this year's 2017 Global Wellness Summit (GWS), with delegates given the opportunity to take a DNA-based assessment beforehand.

Over the next three to five years DNA tests will include nutrition and wellbeing testing that can help us better understand and identify associations between genetic variations present in a person's DNA and the body's predisposition to nutrition, dieting, fitness, skin care or allergies.

Delegates at the summit will find out what these tests – and their results – mean and the effect they have on both the medical and wellness industries. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a DNA-based wellness assessment before the summit and then encouraged to take part in discussions around the testing experience at the event.

Experts will also explore tests that can analyse biomarkers to identify if a person's biology and metabolism are moving in healthy or unhealthy directions.

Kenneth R Pelletier, PhD, MD, a keynote speaker at the summit and a pioneer in epigenetics, said: “We are at an extraordinary tipping point with DNA, biomarker and epigenetic testing – and the dam is about to burst.

"Even if ‘whole DNA and body picture’ tests have taken longer to come to market, they promise to forge stronger connections between the medical and wellness worlds because what’s proven to most positively impact our genetic expression are ultimately things like diet, exercise, stress reduction, and environmental changes. These testing breakthroughs make possible the holy grail: truly personal, precision medicine and wellness.”

The summit,‘Living a Well Life,’ takes place on October 9-11 at The Breakers Palm Beach in Florida, US.
