ISG takes on £5.5m Anchor Line job

by Matthew Campelli | 22 May 2017

Construction company ISG has bagged a £5.5m contract to convert Glasgow’s Anchor Line building into a 64-bed aparthotel.

ISG is working with the White Building Development Company on the project, which will occur on the St Vincent Place part of the Scottish city.

Scottish architect James Miller originally designed the building 110 years ago for the Anchor Line shipping company.

The building’s ground and basement floors are currently home to the Anchor Line restaurant and Atlantic Restaurant, both operated by the Di Maggio Group.

ISG will refurbish the six floors, stripping out fixtures and fitting and installing a passenger lift, however, a number of original features shall be kept, such as glazed tiles, terrazzo flooring, timber wall panelling, safes and fireplaces.

Andy McLinden, managing director of ISG’s UK Construction North and Scotland business, said there was a “renaissance” in the Scottish luxury hospitality sector.

“With limited scope for new building developments, this has resulted in growing demand to adapt and transform existing property assets into high-end hotels,” he added.

“These often-complex conversion projects present significant construction and logistical challenges and this is why an increasing number of clients are entrusting their schemes with ISG.”
