Luxury Clarins spa with panoramic river views opens

by Rebecca Barnes | 03 Feb 2017

MGM National Harbor in Maryland has partnered with global skincare brand Clarins on the resort’s luxurious spa.

Located in the new, US$1.4 billion (€1.3b; £1.1b) MGM National Harbor resort which offers panoramic views of the eastern shore of the Potomac River, the 27,000sq ft (2,508sq m), two-level spa features 11 treatment rooms, fully equipped fitness centre, wet areas, couples’ suites, hydrotherapy, Vichy room and a retail boutique.

To encourage a tranquil atmosphere, the interior features clean and simple lines using white oak and monolithic materials found in the region’s iconic monuments.

Quiet areas are provided for relaxation before and after treatments, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of the surrounding landscape.

A menu of massages, express treatments, facials, treatment add ons and body treatments have been exclusively designed by Clarins; these will combine the “Clarins Touch”— a specialised and skillful massage — with plant extracts and aromatic essential oils to create a blissful sensory experience and visible results.

Select signature treatments are offered exclusively at MGM National Harbor, including the Sensational Fusion Signature Massage, a harmonising massage ritual with choreography of medium to deep pressure, stretch, and percussive movement. As part of the experience, the therapist will create a customized flow inspired by the client’s selection of scent and sound.

Personalised attention will be given to each guest looking for a day of beauty in the full-service salon which includes four stylist stations, a colour room, make-up room, four manicure stations and six pedicure stations. A well-appointed separate men’s barber lounge provides grooming services in a masculine setting.

“Tucked away from the bustling energy of the resort, the spa provides a relaxing retreat for guests looking for a full-day escape or for those popping in for a quick indulgence.” said Patrick Fisher, executive director of hotel operations for MGM National Harbor. “Partnering with Clarins, our guests will enjoy a truly special spa experience, with treatments unique to the region, and products that are best in class.”

MGM Resorts International is widely recognised as a global leader in sustainability, and the resort construction was completed by leading construction company Whiting-Turner, who are one of the largest builders of sustainable buildings in the nation.

Eddie Abeyta of HKS Architects led the overall project design and planning, while the interior design was conceptualised by New York-based Studio GAIA.
