EFDS appoints disability sport champion as deputy chief executive

by Matthew Campelli | 11 Jan 2017

Former Change Foundation executive Andy Dalby-Welsh has been appointed as deputy chief executive of the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS).

Dalby-Welsh will end his 12 year association with the Change Foundation – formerly known as Cricket for Change – when he joins the EFDS on 23 January.

For the past two year’s he has been the foundation’s director of operations and partnerships, while he also filled in as acting chief executive for a short period.

In his newly-created role at the EFDS, the former international cricketer will be responsible for the charity’s business development, looking after corporate services, marketing and communications, research and insight, event management, fundraising, public affair and member support.

In 2004 Dalby-Welsh set up his own project, Sport for Choice, which provided sporting opportunities for the visually impaired.

Five years later he was recognised at the 2009 Pride of Britain Awards for his work with disabled people.

Barry Horne, chief executive of the EFDS, said the organisation “put a great deal of time and effort” in recruiting Dalby-Walsh.

“It’s a great time for someone of Andy’s calibre to be joining our talented and committed team,” added Horne.

Dalby-Welsh said: “I look forward to creating a step change in the number of disabled people benefitting from their participation in sport and recreational activities.”
