Lionsgate releasing Power Rangers VR experience in 2017
Lionsgate’s hotly-anticipated Power Rangers reboot is getting a VR experience to coincide with the film’s release next year.
To debut at the 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, Qualcomm Technologies is creating the VR experience, which will get a worldwide rollout following the IP’s reboot, which comes to cinemas on 24 March next year.
Using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor – engineered to allow for high VR frame rates – the experience will allow users to enter the zords of their favorite Power Ranger, embodying their powers and capabilities as they fight the forces of evil.
VR and animation studio Reel FX is producing the Power Rangers VR experience, which will be on display at the Qualcomm CES booth before being distributed internationally.
"We're delighted to team with Qualcomm Technologies on a virtual reality experience that will bring fans closer to the action of Power Rangers as they prepare for the film to arrive on the big screen," said Paula Kupfer, senior vice president, global partnerships and promotions, Lionsgate.
"Qualcomm Technologies' cutting-edge VR technology provides a platform for a compelling Power Rangers experience and represents a major evolution in the fidelity and immersion made possible through VR."
