Record number of tickets sold for ICC Women’s World Cup Final 2017

by Matthew Campelli | 25 Nov 2016

More than 5,500 people have acquired tickets for next year’s Women’s Cricket World Cup Final at Lord’s – beating previous attendance record with eight months to go.

A record number of spectators picked up tickets during a pre-sale and week-long ballot in October. The remaining tickets will go on sale at 10am on 28 November.

Clare Connor, chair of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s Committee, said she was “pleased with the initial response”.

“With ticket sales already higher than attendances for previous final, this reflects the growth of the women’s game and there is clearly a strong appetite for watching the world’s best players in action and we still have several months to do this,” she added.

England is hosting the tournament next year, with Lord’s among the five venues.

Leicestershire’s Grace Road, Derbyshire’s 3aaa County Ground, Somerset’s County Ground in Taunton and Gloucestershire’s Bristol County Ground will also host a portion of the 31 matches, which will take place between 26 June and 23 July.

ICC chief executive David Richardson said: “The popularity of women’s cricket has been increasing at a fast pace and the enthusiasm to buy tickets is testimony to that.”
