Robert D. Henry designing ‘game-changing’ Ivanka Trump spa

by Jane Kitchen | 25 Sep 2015

New York-based Robert D. Henry Architects are working on Ivanka Trump’s flagship spa in development at The Old Post Office in Washington, D.C., and part of the property’s US US$200m (€144.4m, £119m) redevelopment.

The spa will be a prototype introducing Ivanka Trump’s “unique positioning within spa and wellness,” said Henry, and will be rolled out in the Trump collection of existing hotels, as well as future properties.

“Ivanka has mandated that this be a game-changing wellness project establishing a new benchmark for the wellness industry,” said Henry. “Toward that end, we are going to be introducing some new programmes and spa experiences for the US hotel guest.”

Spa consultant WTS is also working directly with Ivanka Trump and Trump Hotel Collection on their new spa strategy for both existing and new spas within the Trump Hotel Collection, which will be revealed and rolled out in the near future.

"WTS and Bob Henry Architects are working closely on the creative concept and design elements for the legendary OPO in Washington DC to include a signature room, gentlemen’s studio and other spectacular features," said Kim Matheson, senior vice president at WTS. "WTS will proudly launch and manage this landmark property with the new concept The Spa by Ivanka Trump.”

WTS will be the management company of choice for The Spa by Ivanka Trump, said Matheson.

Colony Capital LLC, a private international investment firm, partnered with the Trump Hotel Collection to preserve the landmark post office building.

Architects Beyer Blinder Belle, interior design consultants Hirsch Bedner Associates and historic advisor and preservation specialists John Cullinane & Associates have been tasked with the hotel’s redevelopment from office space into a luxury hotel and spa.

Completion and opening of the hotel and spa are anticipated before the US election in 2016, with Ivanka's father Donald hopeful of representing the Republican Party in the race to become President.
