Mega resort planned for Desaru Coast, Malaysia
A luxury integrated resort - Desaru Coast - is set to open on the eastern coast of Jahor, Malaysia in 2015.
Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH) - established by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, an investment-holding arm of the government of Malaysia - is developing the 3,900-acre resort.
Desaru Coast will launch in phases and will feature an array of luxury hotels and golf residences as well as theme and water parks, retail outlets, a multi-purpose convention centre and a tourism and culinary school.
Situated along the resort's 17km beachfront, the first property to launch will be Aman Country Club and Villas, opened in partnership with Aman Resorts International.
It will be followed by Sheraton Resort and Convention Centre, featuring 1,200sq m (12,917sq ft) of banquet and exhibition space including four meeting rooms with VIP lounges.
Desaru Coast will also house the Plantation Hotel, which will feature an underwater dining experience and rooms overlooking the marine park.
Located at the centre of Desaru Coast is the Riverwalk, a waterfront retail and lifestyle village. It houses DRH's Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary School that aims to enrich the hospitality industry in Malaysia.
The Riverwalk will also serve as an entrance to two water themed park attractions - Ocean Quest and Ocean Splash.
Operated by Themed Attractions and Resorts Malaysia, Ocean Quest will offer a water park experience as well as an educational marine park.
Ocean Splash waterpark will feature a mix of attractions including a large salt-water wave pool, water slides and raft rides.
Two golf courses designed by Ernie Els and Vijay Singh will feature at the resort. The Ernie Els will comprise a 27-hole course with three nine-hole courses. The Els Club designed by Vijay Singh will have an 18-hole course.
