US$200m resort to open in The Gambia in a bid to increase tourism
Quatar's Katara Hospitality will develop a US$200m (QAR730m, £125m, 155m euro) resort near Banjul, Gambia's capital city.
The resort will be located over 18 hectares in Bijilo Forest Park, a rainforest nature reserve, and is expected to have more than 200 rooms
Government of The Gambia, through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Katara Hospitality.
Under the MoU, the Gambian government will offer Katara Hospitality the18-hectare plot of land, under which the two sides would join in the development of the tourism industry in the African country.
Fatou Mass Jobe-Njie, the Minister of Tourism and Culture in The Gambia, assured Katara Hospitality that its investment in the country will contribute significantly to boosting the tourism sector and the country's economy.
Minister Jobe-Njie said: "There have been some investments in our hospitality industry from investors. We are getting many tourists from Europe. Our country is very stable and peaceful. So, there are lots of incentives and opportunities for investors."
Exact details of the resort and its facilities will be revealed later this year.
