Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has marked the official relaunch of Asten's Klok and Peel Museum following the completion of an extensive renovation and expansion programme.

The new-look museum - formerly known as the National Carillon and Nature Museum - is home to one of the world's collections of bells and carillons, while also exploring the heritage of the Peel region.

Van Hoogevest Architecten worked on the project, which included a 1,100sq m (11,840sq ft) expansion and the opening up of previously dark corridors to provide a new spacious interior.

A large exhibition hall has been created at the heart of the museum, with other new facilities including a movie theatre with education spaces and a café with outdoor terrace.

It is hoped the Klok and Peel Museum Asten's new-look and identity will establish it as a global centre for bells and carillons, as well as enhancing its role as a natural and cultural heritage centre for The Peel region.
