Acton Town Hall proposals submitted
S&P Architects have submitted a planning application to Ealing Council for the proposed multi-million pound redevelopment and regeneration of London's Acton Town Hall.
The design firm, which is also behind the design of The Pods in Scunthorpe and St Albans' Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, is working with the local authority to deliver its latest project.
Once complete, the new-look Acton Town Hall will house leisure facilities such as an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool and a 12m x 8m learner pool with moveable floor.
A new, larger affordable gym on the first floor of the building will also form part of the leisure element at Acton Town Hall, while the plans also include a new library and council offices.
Part of the centre will be revamped to house the library and offices, with the Grade II-listed frontage and baths chimneys to be restored. A new entrance will also be created.
Ealing Council is planning to invest £13.2m in the development, with the remaining costs to be met through the sale of the rest of the town hall site, Priory Centre and existing library buildings.
If approved, it is hoped demolition work will be able to start this spring. Practical completion of the project is currently scheduled for spring 2014.
