£9m Neath arts venue to open this week
Neath's Gwyn Hall arts and cultural venue is to be officially opened on 8 March, following the completion of a £9m transformation of the building undertaken by the local authority.
The venue was damaged in an October 2007 fire while undergoing a £4m revamp, but has now been restored and revitalised under plans drawn up by Holder Mathias Architects.
Morgan Ashurst and Swansea-based contractor John Weaver have been involved with work to create the new arts centre, which features a ground-floor theatre with retractable seating.
The Grade II-listed building also includes a cinema with digital and 3D capabilities and full dressing and changing facilities, as well as a box office and a public café bar.
Council leader Ali Thomas said: "The new Gwyn Hall is a truly modern arts and cultural venue which will inspire generations to come."
Celtic Community Leisure will operate Gwyn Hall on behalf of the council, with open days to be held on 9 and 10 March following the official launch.
