May relaunch for London gallery

London's Photographers' Gallery is to reopen on 19 May, following the completion of its £8.9m development project designed by Ireland-based O'Donnell and Tuomey Architects.
The transformation of the photography attraction has included the addition of a two-storey extension, which has doubled the size of the available exhibition space at the Soho venue.
A new environmentally-controlled floor now enables the Photographers' Gallery to display more work from its archives, while top floor galleries boast higher ceilings for larger works.
Meanwhile, the attraction will include a sculpted terrazzo entrance with an open plan design to connect the ground floor café and lower ground bookshop to Ramillies Street.
Arts Council England has backed the project with a £3.6m grant, while a further £2.5m has been provided by a number of trusts, foundations, individuals and corporate organisations.
Photographers' Gallery director Brett Rogers said: "The new Photographers' Gallery will build upon its unique position as London's principal organisation dedicated to championing photography's role at the heart of visual culture.
"Whether on the gallery walls, through printed pages or new technologies, our programmes will provide a platform for current debates, new ideas and creative collaborations."
