Baylor University plans on-campus stadium
Baylor University in Waco, Texas, US, has revealed its plans to bring its American Football team on-campus with the development of a new riverfront stadium designed by Populous.
The institution's football team has played its games away from the campus since 1936 after moving from Carroll Field to Waco Stadium. It currently plays at the Floyd Casey Stadium.
A site alongside the Brazos River, which is located adjacent to Interstate 35 and across from the Highland Athletics Complex, has already been earmarked as the preferred site.
Baylor University has already bought the Waco Hotel, which is located on the northern part of the site, and will now carry out a supporters' survey and a feasibility study.
Ian McCaw, the university's director of athletics, said: "[The stadium] would transform our football program, the University and Waco community.
"Moreover, this facility could lead to many exciting future development options for the Downtown/Brazos River corridor that would dramatically impact all of Central Texas."
