National Indoor BMX Arena topped out
A ceremony has been held to mark the topping out of the new £19m National BMX Indoor Arena, which is currently being developed in Manchester.
BMX World Champion Shanaze Reade helped celebrate the latest milestone for the project, which will include a 2,000-seat venue and a new headquarters for British Cycling. The new arena will house the UK's first purpose-built covered BMX track and will form a new National Cycling Centre alongside the existing Manchester Velodrome.
Manchester City Council (£8.55m); the Northwest Regional Development Agency (£8m); and Sport England (£3m) are funding the Ellis Williams Architects-designed scheme. Sir Robert McAlpine is the main contractor for the scheme, which is being project managed by Davis Langdon. The venue is due for completion this summer.
