West Sussex leisure centre plans unveiled
Plans for a multi-million pound community and leisure centre in Midhurst, West Sussex, have been unveiled by Chichester District Council (CDC).
CDC is leading the project with the help of West Sussex County Council; Grange Centre Trustees; and Midhurst Town Council. The Monument Trust has provided funding. Facilities at the new HNW Architects-designed centre will include a four-court sports hall; a multi-purpose community hall; a dance studio; a 70-station fitness suite; and two squash courts.
A health suite with sauna, steamroom, beauty therapy and physiotherapy rooms is planned, along with a registrar and wellbeing room; a café; and a library. Leisure activities run by Westgate Leisure in both Chichester and Southbourne are to be on offer at the new centre, including the Active for Health programme.
Plans will now be submitted for consideration and CDC aims to start a tender process, with a view to completing the project in 2013. CDC portfolio holder for sport, culture and tourism Nick Thomas said: "We are hoping that this major investment in the north of the district will act as a one-stop shop.
"People can visit the library, take part in sports activities, attend a community event, hold a theatre performance, register a birth, or just stop by for coffee."
