Gateshead stadium overhaul 'on track'
The next phase of a scheme to redevelop Gateshead International Stadium remains 'on track' to be completed in the New Year.
S&P Architects are working with Gateshead Council on the current phase of work, which will include a new building to house a reception, catering and teaching space. Existing changing and toilet accommodation is also being upgraded as part of the work, which commenced on 6 September.
The £7.6m redevelopment has already seen the construction of a new canopy roof on the East Stand to cover more than 4,000 spectator seats, which was unveiled in July. Gateshead Council cabinet member for culture Linda Green said: "Not only is Gateshead one of the European Cities of Sport 2010, we are also committed to improving the health of our residents and we want the fantastic new facilities here to inspire children, young people and adults to adopt healthier lifestyles."
