US$10m expansion for Maryhill Museum of Art
The Maryhill Museum of Art near Goldendale, Washington, US, is to receive a US$10m (£6.2m, 7.2m euro) expansion.
The new 25,500sq ft (2,370sq m) Mary and Bruce Stevenson Wing will represent the museum’s largest expansion in its 70-year history.
Key elements of the expansion include: A dedicated education centre, which will double Maryhill's education space to accommodate the museum's range of programming, and a centralised collections suite with storage areas, collections work rooms and a research and library room.
There will also be more than 12,500sq ft of outdoor interpretive space, in a series of “dramatic and unexpected” views of the Columbia River Gorge.
The new wing was designed by Portland-based architects GBD.
The museum has raised 80 per cent of the funding and is asking the public to help fund the rest.
Work is expected to begin in spring next year.
