Green light for THFC stadium proposals

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (THFC) has been given the green light for the development of a new 56,250-seat stadium by planners at the local authority.
Haringey Council has backed the Premier League club's proposals for the Northumberland Development Project, which includes a new stadium; a public square; and a new club store with museum. KSS is behind the design of the scheme, which will also include the restoration of the Grade II-listed Warmington House and three other historic properties.
The plans - also including the retention of the Bill Nicholson Gates and Golden Cockerel statue - will have to go before London mayor Boris Johnson for approval. THFC chair Daniel Levy said: "Clearly, we are delighted with this unanimous decision and are grateful to all those who expressed such clear support for the plans.
"We shall continue to work with Haringey Council and the application will now be considered by the Mayor of London and referred to the Secretary of State." Levy also confirmed that the club - in conjunction with O2 operator AEG Europe - has registered its interest in taking over the Olympic Stadium site following the 2012 Games.
