Funding boost for 24 historic Welsh buildings
Monmouth's Savoy Theatre and the Animal Wall - part of the Cardiff Castle complex - are among 24 historic buildings to receive a share of nearly £1m from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Savoy Theatre - one of the oldest venues of its kind in Wales - is set to benefit from repair restoration work to its front elevation after securing more than £39,000 as part of the funding package. Nearly £63,000 will go towards re-pointing and restoring railings and stone animals at the Animal Wall. Other sites to receive funding include Golden Grove, Flintshire, and a former warehouse at Victoria Dock in Caernarfon.
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones said: "[The grants] are for a wide range of historic buildings across Wales, reflecting our rich heritage. Funding will ensure that these important properties are restored and maintained for the enjoyment of future generations."
